New york! New york!

During the summer i visited New York! Ive always wanted to visit and although it was a short stay packed lots in! I was quite suprised to how casual people where i think i expected much more because of how glamourised it is on shows such as Sex and the City. I found that the fashion id expected to see was confined to the meatpacking district and 5th avenue. Although i prefered SoHo because it had a more edgy urban individual style and amoungst popular shops there where street sellers selling amazing handmade jewellery!

I really benefited from going and visited Mood fabrics and was amazed! I purchased some gorgeous fabric i intend to use in my collection and made me realise how little choice of fabric stores we have in Manchester even London.

I think seeing a different city and a different culture has influenced my work as i feel i want to design more metropolitan, wearable and sophisticated garments now. Which i think i have found my strength lies in.

The city itself was beautiful yet ugly at the same time! It was quite dirty and rushed but at night it had a completly different feel. It was busy and looked amazing because of all the lights everywhere, it seemed like a completly different place yet the same! Maybe i can try and translate this mood into my work!

Seeing The New School was quite intresting as i think it would be amazing to study there and moving away and living in a new culture would have a distinct impact on my work, but at the same time compared to London which is just as metropolitan and busy i thought New York felt like a really lonely place. But i guess there are two sides to every decision and to get ahead in fashion you have to be prepared to make sacrifices!

Graduate Fashion Week 2010

I went to graduate fashion week again this year and its an amazing feeling to be there. To sit and watch the graduate shows makes you feel so passionate and makes me realise how much i want to be there next year. I know the course is about learning and coming out with a collection that i am proud of but it would be the perfect platform for press and designers to see my work and get out there! When you get their it makes you realise just how many people are as determined as you and makes me realise just how lucky i will be to show my collection there next year if i am picked. Its also good to see other peoples work and people as talented as yourself but how everyone works so differently!

Its started a litle spark inside me and makes me want to work so hard....I WILL BE THERE NEXT YEAR!

Its also inspiring to see poeple from my course and university there because it makes me realise it is acheivable and i have as much a chance as anyone else! Rebeccas who won the river island gold award, her work wasnt to out there or crazy it was very wearable and sophisticated! As opposed to Nabil's work who won a couple of years ago which was very theatrical! So you just dont know what the judges are looking for and i just have to believe in my own talent!
